FBFF: Mickey Mouse Ties and Gingerbread Bands

I recently joined ModlyChic’s Fashion Beauty Friend Friday (You can join, too!). Basically, every Friday along with my regular posts, I’ll be posting answers to the questions Katy from ModlyChic asks. It’s a great way for me to connect with you as the reader and with other bloggers! This week’s FBFF is all about Christmas. Quite appropriate.

1. Your favorite holiday memory:

Surprises are the best, aren’t they? One Christmas after all the presents were opened, my parents told my brother to look behind the couch, and he pulled out a BB gun he had been wanting but had no clue he was going to get. My parents then told me to look under the couch, and I found an envelope with a picture of a stereo system for my room, complete with a 5-CD changer. I was pretty psyched. It was still in the mail, but I had absolutely no idea they were going to get me that. Although it would take up way too much space in my dorm room, I still use it whenever I’m home.

I also love when we as a family (extended and all) gather around the piano and sing Christmas songs to celebrate the birth of the Savior of the world.

2. Were you ever a victim of those family Christmas party photo shoots? What do you think about them now? Care to share an old photo?

My family has never taken Christmas photos to send out as Christmas cards. Never! This is the closest thing we’ve had to a Christmas photo shoot, and I’m pretty sure the picture was taken just a year ago right after Thanksgiving.

3. Best Christmas gift you ever gave:

I bought my dad a Mickey Mouse tie as a Christmas present when I was 5, and I was so excited that I couldn’t keep my mouth shut about it. I told my dad when we got home that I got him a Mickey Mouse tie for Christmas. The best part about the gift?

He still has the tie.

4. Craziest/funniest holiday family tradition:

My parents don’t allow my brother and me to go downstairs to open our stockings until 7, which is always hard on my younger brother, even though he’s 17. When we were younger, we’d wake up at 6 and wait in our rooms until 7, meet at the top of the stairs and rush down to our stockings. But even worse than waiting until 7, we always had to wait until 8 to wake up our parents. Then even more waiting as they open their stockings, eat breakfast, and get ready for the day before we finally get to open our presents. Every year it’s like herding cats to open presents.

Also, as of the past few years, we’ve been into making gingerbread houses. Two years ago, though, my brother had the brilliant and genius idea to make a gingerbread rock band. Ummm, how cool is this?

5. Favorite type of Christmas cookie:

I love sugar cookies. Boring, I know. But when you get to decorate them with such love and fun (like I did this year with two of my closest friends), you get the joy of eating yummy and funny cookies like this:

Does your family have fun or crazy Christmas traditions?
