Five Red Lip Options for Valentine's Day

With Valentine's Day coming up this week, I thought it was the perfect time to bust out my red lipsticks and do a little try-on session! I've worn these lipsticks a few times, but the on regular I'm definitely more of a nude and pink lipstick gal. Which option of the five I tried would be your jam?

Laura Mercier's Red Amour Créme Smooth Lip Colour: This one is without a doubt the most hydrating of all the lipsticks, so if you're into a traditional lipstick, this formula is the one for you. The color applies quite sheer and almost pink, so you'll definitely want to layer it up to get more red out of it. It wears off beautifully, so if you're going on a date that involves dinner, you don't need to worry about your lipstick looking more like lip liner after a drink or two.

Bite Beauty's Pomegranate High Pigment Pencil (currently on sale for $10): This is a richer red than the previous lip look, and much like its predecessor, this one is hydrating and wears off beautifully. As the name would suggest, it's very pigmented, so be mindful of how you apply it (but it's perfect for precision because of its pencil-like application). Don't be surprised if your lips are slightly stained after applying this.

NARS' Cruella Velvet Matte Lip Pencil: This one is my favorite of all the lip options I tried on because of color and formula. It's described as a scarlet red, and it has a beautiful blue base to it that makes your teeth appear whiter. I love that it's not your typical cherry red but slightly deeper and vampier without venturing too far into berry territory. The formula is definitely more resiliant and long-wearing than the previous two lip options, and while it's a very matte finish, it's highly comfortable.

Kat Von D's Outlaw Everlasting Liquid Lipstick: If you've ever wanted a budge-proof lipstick that will last through a Valentine's day movie and dinner date, this is the one for you. I'm not a huge fan of liquid lipsticks because I find them uncomfortable to wear and prefer something more hydrating. However, this is the one to get if you're in the market for one. The color applies beautifully and doesn't bleed past the lip lines.

Maybelline's Pioneer Super Stay Matte Ink Lip Color: This option is definitely the most budget-friendly, and if you're looking for a more affordable liquid lipstick, this is the way to go. It'll remain slightly sticky for a few hours, so I'd recommend applying it well before your Valentine's date to give it time to dry fully. It's a beautiful color and again has that blue base that makes your teen look whiter.
