Daily: Wimped Out

Yesterday was such a busy, hot, sweaty day that I wimped out on a daily outfit. I do hope you’ll forgive me. I got home from working at the flea market, and I was tired and sweaty. I changed into some sweats and listed some eBay stuff, so I decided to share this with you instead!

These are what I call my lookbooks. They’re basically three-ring binders full of magazine pages I found inspiring. Sometimes whole outfits were put together. Other times, I just really liked the idea of one particular piece. Every once in a while the colors were really unusual and something I’d like to duplicate.

I’ve been collecting pages for probably four or five years. I subscribe to a few fashion magazines, which helps keep my lookbooks full. Usually, I’ll also find a couple of garage sales that will have stacks and stacks of magazines like Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar; sometimes they’re the most recent ones, and other times, they’ll be two, three, or four years old. It doesn’t matter to me, though, because sometimes older things can be inspiring (*cough* vintage *cough*), and often certain fashions never fade or they just come back in style.

I find that during the summer, I hardly ever pull these books out for two reasons. 1) Summer is usually so warm that I don’t like to put a lot of thought into what I’m going to wear because I want to stay as cool as possible, which means, consequently, wearing as little as possible. 2) I am a winter/snow/boots person, so a lot of the pages are filled with fall, winter, and early spring ideas; I guess I’m stuck in my cold ways.

So there they sit on my shelf next to a few of my other fashion and style books. If you don’t have a lookbook and often find yourself at a loss for what to wear, or maybe you’re just tired of your clothes and need some inspiration to remix a few pieces, I’d encourage you to begin your own lookbook. Not only might it save you money, but it also might bring out the creativity in you!
