Daily: Alexa Chung-Inspired
On Monday, the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011 show took place in London. On top of absolutely drooling over the entire show (matching bags and coats! toggles! buffalo plaid!), the arrivals could have been their own show in and of themselves. Kate Bosworth’s studded Burberry skirt was insanely cool. Rachel Bilson’s tweed dress was surprisingly sweet and edgy. But Alexa Chung was the one who caught my eye, so I decided to pull inspiration from her outfit (which you can see here). Here’s the breakdown:
Cashmere Sweater: Garage sale (Neiman Marcus)
Dress (layered): Elder Beerman
Faux Leather Leggings: Target
Leather Boots: Salvation Army
Leopard Belt: Liz Claiborne
Ring: Banana Republic
I decided to go a little more layered than Alexa by adding a dress underneath my thrifted sweater. I really don’t like the look of leggings as pants without something covering your butt; it just looks like you forgot your skirt or pants. This dress was the perfect length and added a little more coverage.
The sweater itself was pretty boxy, and I really didn’t like that look. The solution? A belt! This animal-print one seems to be my go-to this year, and I love the edginess that it adds, along with the faux leather leggings. The perfect shoes would have been my wedge booties, but if you can’t tell, we had a bit of an ice storm (again!), so the sidewalks are covered in ice. Flat boots seemed the sane choice to me.
Would you ever wear leather or faux leather leggings?
