The Surprise Palette

If there's one big beauty lesson I've learned this year, it's never to judge a palette by its initial colors. I'll admit . . . I judged the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette and thought, "Oh, those colors just aren't me. I'll never get that palette." It's now one of my most-reached-for palettes daily, and I find I'm having to eat my words once again.

Enter the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Edition Eyeshadow Palette. When it released a couple of months ago and beauty gurus were going crazy for it, I didn't think I'd end up taking the plunge because the colors are so unlike what I tend to gravitate toward naturally. When the fall Sephora VIB Rouge sale came around and I saw the palette in-person, though, my mind changed. (You can see what else I purchased during the sale here.)

The palette itself contains ten matte shadows, two chromatic pressed pearl shadows, and six 3D metal shadows (very reminiscent of pressed pigments). I'd heard some in the beauty community were complaining about the inconsistency of quality in some of the shadows in the palette, but mine performs perfectly. Each shadow is very pigmented and blendable, and the shimmery shadows are extreme in the best sense of the word.

If you're feeling adventurous—or maybe you just want a new palette to spice up your makeup routine—this is a great palette to add to your collection. Don't be scared of the pink and orange shadows; they're quite wearable, and I think if you give it a chance, you'll be surprised at how much you enjoy and use this. I know I was.
