Reaching for Retinol
If you've been following my blog or my YouTube beauty videos as of late, you'll know I've been struggling to get rid of stubborn breakouts. The typical topical, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, doesn't seem to have much effect on my skin, but anything sulfur- or charcoal-based seems to react well. There's one product I've been hesitant to try because of how drying and harsh it's said to be on skin: retinol.
I finally took the plunge with Neutrogena's Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum. You can shell out some serious cash for retinol products, but this particular one from the drugstore was very affordable. I nervously applied it after cleansing my face the first night, but when I woke up the next morning, my breakouts were reduced and my skin's texture had become smoother. I've noticed maybe a little bit of dryness since using this every night, but that's easily fixed by only applying every other night.
I'm looking forward to seeing what using this product in the long-term will do to my breakouts. Have you tried a retinol product before? What would you recommend?
