While my friend Anna was in town a few weekends ago, we went to Sephora (dangerous territory), and I went in with one particular mission: to scope out the Fresh perfumes. I was looking for a perfume that was summery without being flowery. Scents evoke memories in me, and I often associate perfumes with seasons. For fall, I wear Miss Dior. For winter, I wear Burberry Body and Viktor and Rolf's Flowerbomb. For spring, it's a mixture of Tory Burch, Elizabeth and James White, and Marc Jacobs' Lola. I've never had a signature summer scent, and I figured Fresh would be a good bet.
I love the way the Fresh Sugar Lip Balms smell, and I've tried the deodorant version and loved it. After Anna and I spent probably at least 20 minutes debating what to get, she settled on the Brown Sugar perfume (my second choice), and I settled for the classic Fresh Sugar scent. It's described as incorporating sparkling citrus notes with delicately sweet heart and lingering warm base notes. It's sweet and warm, but it's not overly sweet and warm. I think it's the perfect late-summer scent: not too dark and heavy to be a cold-weather scent, but not too flowery and light to be a spring scent.
